Get to know Jen ...
When people think of their lives, they do not anticipate or plan for those unexpected challenges. Nurturing oneself gets pushed aside, hindering us from being the self we hope to be. As a registered social worker, I make it my goal to help my clients find their inner strength to overcome those challenges that life throws at them and offer them hope in finding that inner self. I practice from an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed approach focusing on person-centred planning and solution-focused therapy. Adopting approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Narrative Approach and Family Systems Theory, I hope to assist clients in breaking down those barriers and delve into those challenges preventing them from moving forward.
With over 15 years of work experience in the social service sector, I come with extensive knowledge and adaptable strategies in working with individuals with anxiety, depression, complex mental health, dual diagnosis and physical and intellectual challenges. I have experience in sexuality facilitation and encourage my clients to feel comfortable in the therapeutic space to express themselves.
As a queer practitioner, I understand the challenges of trying to identify with yourself and fit yourself into societal labels. As part of this minority community, I take pride in using my experience to help others navigate those challenges and find their voice. If you are looking for an authentic, compassionate and strong advocate to assist you in adaptable ways along your journey so that you can flourish, please reach out, as it would be my honour.
When not in session, Jen is exploring nature with her two little boys and rounding up two busy basset hounds for their day to day adventures.
